Moira has spent most of her life at the piano. She has constantly pursued a passion for empowering marginalized and underserved voices, as she balanced her careers as a musician and concert promoter. Co-founder of the local concert production company, KPP Concerts, Moira has produced live concerts for 20+ years, working with artists such as Arkells, City and Colour, Pup, and Lights. Most recently, Moira founded the initiative Spring Reverb, a four-day exhibition to promote, develop and showcase the Kingston music scene.
As a performer, Moira is at home on stage, combining enthusiasm for music, live theatre, and activism. Recent highlights include a production and performance of the award-winning Fringe production “Anybody Can Be Pussy Riot” plus various collaborations with anARC Theatre, Calliope Collective, Go/ No Go Productions. As a songwriter, Moira combines inspiration ranging from Philip Glass to Laura Jane Grace; her original compositions are dynamic and fluid. Equal parts pop and minimalist piano, her piano scores echo a cinematic landscape with a rich chesty mezzo voice flying effortlessly on top. Her songs are authentic, heart-wrenching, relatable, and cleverly melodic.
Demorest’s debut independent release, “this is me being nice”, was released in November 2020.
Currently working as Kingston’s Music Officer (Tourism Kingston in partnership with the City of Kingston), Moira’s work continues to focus on support and development of Kingston’s rich musical ecosystem.
